The Consciousness Box
Our blog includes some of the reflections by a talented writer that creates content under the name Olga Lifeisgood. She has been very kind in allowing us to publish some of her most intimate reflections on consciousness and the nature of life.
Growth of consciousness is like finding out you are in a box. Just by this observation you gain the ability to get out of it, only to realize that you are inside of a larger box. Imagine being trapped in a matchbox in a closet inside of the art museum. There is a lot to discover.
A logical question to ask would be: how come all of these years you’ve been in a box and weren’t able to recognize it? It is because the box was large enough to contain your consciousness and it made you feel cozy instead of confined. But once you become curious about what’s behind this wall and start doubting the principles that you knew your entire life, you are now ready to grow beyond it. There is so much joy to become less limited, to have more freedom and to have access to what wasn’t available before!
If it was so easy to move beyond the confinement, why didn’t you do it before? In fact, why don’t you do it all the time while choosing to be small? I suspect it might be because of the fear to doubt the existing comfort of the box. Isn’t it why babies cry when they are born? It can be so unthinkable that the set of rules that someone lives by and that you’re used to rely on may not be everything there is, but fear makes it as something you wouldn’t want to consider.
I think that fear is the biggest reason that stops anyone from dreaming. I am looking at the sign that says: “If your dreams don’t scare you, they’re not big enough” – so true. And it is also true that following your dreams despite the fear will help you grow. So, it looks like realizing your fears is an essential part of the process of growth. It is something to discover in order to make the leap. So then, the progress of consciousness is nothing else but discovering hidden subconscious fears and making an informed and courageous decision to move forward.
I must add that habits are hard to break; they play an important role in creating the comfort – the one that kept us in the box and that will help you to move on. The more change a person is experiencing, the more distress there may be, however it can also be a sign of growth. There are ways to make a transition more comfortable. I can share about it later, if you would like.
